As the common Lone Star phrase goes, everything is bigger in Texas—and that includes holiday celebrations.
If you’ll be home in Dallas for the holidays, we’ve got your festive plans with these 6 events to celebrate the Christmas season:
November 30: Deck the Plaza
Get ready to usher in the Christmas season with the Deck the Plaza event at City Hall Plaza. Get your “oohs” and “ahhs” fix as the city lights up the 40 ft tall tree that stands like a watchful Christmas guardian over the plaza. This free event will feature music and Christmas treats, like hot chocolate and cookies.
December 1 - December 16: Santa’s Village in Richardson
It may not be the North Pole, but it’s certainly a closer stop: Head to Richardson to witness a life-sized Santa’s Village. Kids will love it, and your wallet will too: it’s completely free! But beware, it’s an incredibly popular Christmas stop, so expect to mix and mingle with the crowds of others who have come to enjoy the closest thing to the North Pole. You can make a trip to the North Pole (er, Richardson) every Friday - Sunday nights from December 1 to December 16.
Until December 23: North Pole Express
Okay, if this isn’t the cutest thing ever, then we don’t know what is. Bring the North Pole Express book and film to life with this magical train ride in historic Grapevine. You and the fam will board the train and be treated to hot chocolate, cookies, Christmas carols, and a visit to the North Pole and Santa’s workshop. Your kids are sure to remember this event for Christmases to come—and we’re willing to bet this will soften even the Scrooge-iest of grown-ups.
Until December 30: Holiday at the Arboretum
The Dallas Arboretum always knows how to celebrate the season in style, and they’re doing it in dazzling form this year with hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights adoring the gardens and the return of The 12 Days of Christmas exhibit—decked-out gazebos featuring characters and more from the always-stuck-in-your-head Christmas carol. Get your tickets now through December 30, with the 12 Days of Christmas exhibit offered only on certain days of the week.
Until January 1: Dallas Zoo Lights
As if a trip to the zoo isn’t captivating enough (hello, lions and giraffes), the Dallas Zoo is taking it to the next level by adding one million (one million, y’all!!!) lights to illuminate the wilds. You’ll even be able to enjoy extra holidays activities on certain nights throughout the Christmas season!
Until January 1: Gaylord Texan
Enjoy a “Lone Star Christmas” at the Gaylord Texan! This hotel goes all out with 2 million holiday lights and more fun events you can enjoy, like a skating rink, snow tubing (sign us uuupp), Rudolph’s Holly Jolly Breakfast, and more!
