5 Recipes With Only 5 Ingredients or Less

Have any of you ever audited your budget and realized HOLY WHOA, you just spent close to a gazillion dollars on groceries last month?! We definitely have.

And it makes sense: it’s crazy easy to go nuts at the grocery store, throwing in that extra box of protein bars on a whim, not realizing that all those extra items added to your basket during each grocery run is taking a heavy hit on your grocery budget.

And then of course there’s those meals that call for 10+ ingredients each time. There’s no way to be frugal when one meal costs more to make than a night out at the newest restaurant in town. So we decided another recipe list was in order. This time: recipes that are only 5 ingredients or less.

Enjoy these 5 recipes with 5 ingredients or less—we can’t wait to try these ourselves! And then enjoy that extra money in your wallet from your reduced grocery bill!

1. 5 Ingredient Pasta Salad

Pasta. Roasted red peppers. Basil pesto. Mozzarella. Arugula. That’s all you need to create this delicious and perfect-for-spring pasta salad. The longest amount of time spent on this will be cooking the pasta, and that’s a task even the newest of cooks to the kitchen can take on. We see this becoming a warm weather weekday staple, especially given the ingredients are a less-than-$15 grocery haul!

2. Slow Cooker Pineapple Salsa Chicken

This Slow Cooker Pineapple Salsa Chicken recipe takes the easy-cake with only four ingredients: chicken, tomato salsa, pineapple chunks, and diced zucchini. Plus it uses the slow cooker, which is basically a live-in chef for us common folk who can’t actually afford a live-in chef: just pop in your ingredients before you leave for work, and come home to a delicious meal you spent all of 10 minutes preparing.

3. Chicken Caprese Salad

Are we the only ones who love all things caprese?! Caprese pizza, caprese baked chicken, and now, this incredible caprese salad… Mmmmm our mouths are watering just writing about it. This recipe is your classic caprese in salad form: great for dinner on a Monday night with leftovers for lunch on Tuesday! The recipe calls for grilling the chicken, but pan-seared sounds just as delicious for those who are grill-less. But hey, if your apartment complex has a grill, maybe this spring weather might be a good time to invite some friends over and try your hand at grilling?! Grab a bottle of rosé and make a Saturday evening of it (without breaking the bank, ‘eyooo!).

4. Thai Salmon

Don’t be scared off by the idea of cooking fish. Cooking salmon can be easy-peasy, and this recipe is especially so. You will have to plan ahead as it calls for letting the salmon marinate overnight (which means an oh-so-delicious marrying of the different flavors). But once it’s ready to go, all you have to do is stick the salmon in the oven to broil for a few minutes. Simple!

5. Easy White Chicken Chili

Another recipe that lets the slow cooker shine (though there’s also a stovetop version if that’s more your thing), this Easy White Chicken Chili looks like the perfect option for when you’re needing a little bit of comfort food in your life (which for us is, like, every week). Because it’s a slow cooker recipe with a next-to-nothing list of ingredients, we are pretty pumped to include this in our weekly meal planning!

And a bonus recipe for you…

A quick and easy recipe that we love making on the reg is this oh-so-yummy Mexican wrap. We start with delicious grain-free Siete Tortillas (perfect for all you g-free babes out there), then layer black beans, guacamole, lettuce, and lemon or olive oil dressing on top. Trust us, it’s fantastic.
