We talk a lot about goals on the Dallas Iron Fitness blog, and for good reason. We believe that goals, when set properly, can lead you to a healthier, happier, more fulfilled life that can bring light to an often chaotic world.
But we also realize that we don’t always meet all our goals, and that can sometimes discourage us from making any more goals. Unmet goals from our past can lead us to believe that we’re entirely incapable of meeting goals in the first place, so why bother?
We’re 6 months into 2018, and you might be feeling this way: discouraged that the health (or other) goals you set for yourself still seem so far away.
If you feel this way, these 3 books will inspire you to keep going!

Part of the process to reaching your goals is being inspired to reach your goals throughout the journey, and these 3 books will inspire you to meet your goals!
THE POWER OF HABIT: WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO IN LIFE AND BUSINESS
“First, there is a cue, a trigger that tells your brain to go into automatic mode and which habit to use. Then there is the routine, which can be physical or mental or emotional. Finally, there is a reward, which helps your brain figure out if this particular loop is worth remembering for the future.”
Why We Love It:
You may have seen us talk about this book in other posts, and that’s because it has BLOWN OUR MINDS over just how the mind works (pun very intended). The Power of Habit gives us the science behind why our brain develops and maintains certain habits. By understanding how our brain works, we’re then able to recognize and disrupt the destructive behaviors that have become autopilot for us, like that afternoon trip to the vending machine at work. And don’t let the word “science” fool you into thinking this book is like painfully trying to read an academic paper—far from it. The stories and explanations will keep you engaged and turning the page the whole way through!
YOUR BEST YEAR EVER: A 5-STEP PLAN FOR ACHIEVING YOUR MOST IMPORTANT GOALS
“One of the biggest reasons we don’t succeed with our goals is we doubt we can. We believe they’re out of reach. Polls show the percentage of people in their twenties who achieve their New Year’s resolutions is far greater than those over fifty. … Why? It’s sad, but the greater the number of setbacks we’ve experienced in life, the less likely we are to believe we can prevail. Doubt is a goal toxin.”
Why We Love It:
“A goal without a plan is just a wish”—and Your Best Year Ever provides you with just that: a 5-step plan for setting and achieving your goals. Yes, the title is “Your Best Year Ever,” but that doesn’t have to mean you have to wait until January to get started. We still have 6 months left of 2018--there’s STILL plentyyyy of time to make your goals happen, so why wait?
MAKE IT HAPPEN: SURRENDER YOUR FEAR, TAKE THE LEAP, LIVE ON PURPOSE
“When you get honest about what’s holding you back, you open yourself to good change. Little by little, you exchange fear for a life of faith—a life where fear does not rule you but rather motivates you to dive deeper. A life that gets you and everyone around you fired up.”
Why We Love It:
Lara Casey is a kick-ass businesswoman who understands what it means to live life on purpose. When we make big goals for ourselves, health or otherwise, we’re often faced with self-doubt that tries to convince us that we’re incapable of reaching these goals. Make It Happen challenges us to evaluate our fears and recognize the truth—we are capable of reaching big goals and doing hard things. Each chapter presents us with action steps that we can take to make it happen. We also love that she ties in her faith with her business!
